Wandsworth has bagged second place in this year’s London Youth Games at Crystal Palace.

In its 40th year, the LYG takes place during nine months of competitions across 30 sports, including archery, football, netball, hockey, athletics and swimming and is Europe’s largest youth sports event.

Wandsworth’s team, of more than 400 young athletes this year, has taken first place three times and second place twice.

The boroughs teams came out on top as London Champions in archery and boys’ hockey.

There were also notable performances from the indoor rowers, girls’ football, under 19s netball and girls’ squash.

The council’s sport and leisure spokesman Councillor Jonathan Cook said: “Congratulations to all the young people who once against did Wandsworth proud.”
