Police investigating after a double-decker bus crashed into a building in Battersea are appealing for witnesses to contact them with information.

PC Peter Leach, from the Met's Commercial Vehicle Unit, said: “We are very keen to hear from members of the public who saw what happened, especially any drivers with dash cams, or cyclists with helmet cams.”

The incident took place this morning (August 10) at about 6:55am in Lavender Hill at the junction with Altenburg Gardens.

Two people, who were trapped on the bus for about an hour, were taken to hospital as a “priority” and ten people were injured after the bus crashed into Poggenpohl Kitchen Design Centre.

The driver of the bus, who witnesses say “blacked out”, was also taken to a south London hospital.

One witness described hearing a “massive explosion” and seeing a woman trapped at the top front of the bus window.

Others praised the emergency services and the public for their quick responses.

Kazim Dô'leker, 49, from Café Parisienne, said: “They acted quick yet it took a while to get everyone out, from the top window about an hour. Everyone done their best.”

Police, London Ambulance Service, two fire engines and three fire rescue units attended.

The LAS sent five ambulance crews, two paramedics in cars and an incident response officer to the scene, alongside our hazardous area response team.

The first medics arrived on the scene within six minutes.
