The first cosmetic clinic in south London offering hair transplant surgery has opened in Wandsworth.

The Treatment Rooms (TTR) opened this month in the heart of Putney and, as well as hair transplants, offers a range of cosmetic treatments to south west London.

According to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery there was a 76 per cent increase in the procedures from 2006 to 2014.

Located on Upper Richmond Road, the clinic provides doctor-led treatments including hair restoration treatment and surgery, anti-wrinkle treatment, dermal fillers, cryolipolysis (fat freezing) and thread lifts.

Two great friends set up the business, Dr Dilan Fernando, 28, and Dr Roshan Vara, 27, and aim to provide a personalised experience working “endlessly and intricately to ensure that everyone’s journey is a positive experience”.

They say: “It is run by local doctors who want to make a difference to people’s lives and give back to the community in a positive way.”

Meet the doctors

Both grew up in south London, Dr Vara in Kingston and Dr Fernando in Camberwell, and went to the same sixth form.

But it was only when they went to medical school together at King’s College London that their friendship solidified and they “challenged each other to perform medicine and surgery to the best of our ability.”

Wandsworth Times:

Dr Vara and Dr Fernando

They completed a medical elective in Sri Lanka and it was in August 2016, during their travels across the world, that TTR was born.

Dr Fernando was passionate about a career in surgery from a very young age.

He said: “I had an interest in neurosurgery, chairing national organisations, publishing internationally and many other accreditations which stood me in good stead for a career in the area.

“At the time, this seemed pretty set as the career path for me, and now I have left, I have surprised a lot of my friends, family and even myself.”

He describes his decision to leave the NHS as a “complex one”.

He said: “It’s well known that there is a lot of strain on all staff within the NHS.

“Whilst many of my colleagues were flocking to Canada, Australia and the USA, my focus remained here in the UK.

“Dr Vara’s proposal to set up a clinic was timely, as it was an opportunity to keep my feet on local soil, whilst utilising my surgical skill set albeit for a different purpose.”

Dr Fernando continues to work at his old Neurosurgical Unit, supporting his local hospital, while splitting his time to treat clients who attend TTR.

Dr Vara works full time at TTR.

Passionate about his field, he said: “I have loved all facets of medicine- name any subset of the practice and you’ll find I have a passion for the science behind it and applying this knowledge to help others.

“I never found myself bored as a doctor, but I always found myself wondering what I could achieve outside of the NHS.

“I had found my passion in helping others but could not focus in on where I wanted to take my skillset.”

It was not until Dr Vara had a close friend who had a bad experience with a hair transplant procedure that the idea came to him.

He said: “I knew I could provide a sterling service when it comes to a treatment.

“I knew that performing a hair transplant procedure meant you would be giving back someone’s youth, their confidence and their sense of well-being.

“I needed a colleague, a surgeon, a friend to help me realise this ambition.

“Dr Fernando is the only person I can trust from both a surgical perspective and an ethos point of view.

“His drive for surgical excellence, correct surgical technique and his attention to detail is second to none.”
