A man has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence after a woman died when a boat capsized under Wandsworth Bridge in 2015.

Jack Shepherd, from Abergavenny, Wales, was charged yesterday (September 19) and will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on October 18.

The charges relate to the incident on December 8, 2015, when police were called to reports of a person in distress in the Thames.

Shepherd, now 30, was recovered from the water along with Charlotte Brown, 24, and taken to hospital soon after.

Miss Brown was later pronounced dead.

While detectives from Wandsworth borough were initially investigating, the case was later passed on to the homicide and major crime command due to the "complex nature" of the investigation, a Met spokesperson said.

Miss Brown, who preferred to be known as Charli, was living in East Finchley at the time of her death, and was originally from Welling in Bexley borough.
