New government figures show the progress made by secondary school pupils in Wandsworth.

This “Progress 8” score reflects the difference between the results SATs taken in year nine and results from GCSEs and other key stage four qualifications.

It takes into account up to eight qualifications, with greater weight placed on English and maths results because of their importance.

Harris Academy Battersea in Battersea Park Road, which is also one of Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s flagship schools for success, achieved the highest Progress 8 score at 1.49 and has seen 90 percent – or 122 of 135 – of its 2015 leavers either stay in education or enter employment.

Dr David Moody, principal of Harris Academy Battersea, said: “These figures indicate that we are among the country’s very top performers for pupil progress for the second year in a row.

“Our teachers give their all to make sure that our children succeed. There is a relentless drive for higher academic standards and it is that determination to improve that runs through the very core of our staff.”

Ashcroft Technology Academy near Portinscale Road was the second of only two schools to achieve a ‘well above average’ rating, of .8, and has the highest percentage of students securing English baccalaureates (EBacc) at grade 5 or C and above in Wandsworth (57 percent).

Meanwhile, Southfields Academy and Graveney School were rated ‘above average’ at .43 and .31 respectively.

Scores of 0.5 and above reflect well above average progress, roughly in the top 12 percent; above zero but below 0.5 is above average, in the top 30 percent; around zero is average, in the top 70 percent.

Schools with a score under zero might still have shown improvements; it just shows they made less progress than most other schools in the country.

The scores are provisional until January 2018.
