The Conservatives have retained their seat in the Wandsworth Council by-election called following the death of Mayor Jim Maddan.

John Locker has been elected to serve as a new councillor for the Thamesfield ward.

He received 1,910 votes and will now serve as a member of Wandsworth Council after the results were revealed last night (November 9).

Sally Warren, of Wandsworth Labour, received 1,101 votes followed by Ryan Mercer of the Liberal Democrats (619) and Diana McCann of the Green Party (275).

Mr Locker said: “I am honoured to have been elected to represent Thamesfield ward as councillor and would like to thank everyone who voted and took part in the democratic process.

“I'd also like to pay tribute to Jim Maddan who I knew through both my earlier council work and personally.

“I hope to live up to his high standards of service to the community.”

He has lived in Wandsworth for 17 years and a school governor at a Wandsworth primary school for 14 years.

Mr Locker was previously a councillor for Bedford and was also a former chair of the borough’s Transport and Strategic Planning Committee.

Ravi Govindia, Wandsworth Council leader, said: "I am delighted that John has been re-elected to council and look forward to welcoming him back.

"He is extremely  hardworking and will do a great job for Thamesfield  residents."
