A Tooting school’s new cadet force laid a wreath of poppies during its two-minute silence to mark Remembrance Day.

The Royal Marines Combined Cadet Force (RMCCF) at Ernest Bevin College, in Beechcroft Road, marked the occasion alongside other schools across Wandsworth.

A new unit at Ernest Bevin, the RMCCF is part of a cadet expansion programme and is said to be one of only two Royal Marine units in London.

Vice Admiral Jonathan Woodcock OBE, Second Sea Lord and Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, attended the opening ceremony of college’s RMCCF detachment before taking salute earlier this year.

Contingent Commander Nick Mason said: “The cadets have come so far since they paraded for the first time in April this year.

“It is incredible to believe that just over six months from that day, they have organised this service of remembrance themselves.

“We hope next year to have more cadets and to expand our service to commemorate 100 years since Armistice Day [in] 1918.”

The CCF is a voluntary youth organisation which works in state and independent schools across the country.

It aims to promote military values and encourage pupils to reach their potentials, contributing to their communities across the country.

Ernest Bevin held the event on Friday, November 10.
