Ford has released plans to launch its 'Chariot' minibus service along two routes in Wandsworth.

The American-based motor manufacturer wishes to operate in six central London routes, each with their own names.

The 'Wandsworth Wanderer' journeys from Riverside Water to Clapham Junction, while the 'Battersea Bullet' begins in Battersea Park and ends in Lambeth's Kennington.

All of the proposed routes begin and end at, or near to, a London Underground or mainline train station, and Ford says it will serve areas which pre-existing bus routes do not necessarily cover.

Customers would book their rides on the Chariot app for a seat on the 15-seater vehicle, with the shuttle service operating from Monday to Friday with the exception of bank holidays.

Since the proposals are in their early stages, no price has been set yet.

It has already been launched in four American cities, including New York, San Francisco and Seattle.

Ford has since submitted plans to Transport for London (TfL) and a public consultation is currently being held until December 18.

If successful, it is said the service would begin in late January next year.

Cllr Jonathan Cook, Wandsworth Council's speaker on community services, said: "We are closely examining these proposals now to determine their possible impact on existing bus routes. In the meantime I would urge all our residents to take a look at the plans and take part in the online consultation."
