A Clapham garden designer and writer has won Blog of the Year at the coveted gardening 'Oscars'.

Jack Wallington, of Littlebury Road, was described as 'inspirational' by judges at the Garden Media Guild Awards 2017 in central London.

With a record number of entrants this year the prestigious awards hold significance in the industry, much like the Chelsea Flower Show, for writers, broadcasters and more.

He said: "My blog is a very personal diary of my journey into the world of garden design, nature and botany. For it to be recognised as Blog of the Year is overwhelming, I'm so happy."

Mr Wallington, 36, has lived in the area for 15 years and became involved in gardening with the Royal Botanic Gardens after studying business at the University of Surrey.

He recently quit his job as a website publisher for The Student Room to work in horticulture full-time.

Garden Media Guild chairwoman Clare Foggett said: "That so many of this year's winning entries document the benefits of gardening has for our health and wellbeing, or appeal to people discovering the joy of gardening for the first time, shows that our winners are adept at turning the mood of the moment into high-quality content that makes people want to get out and garden."

The ceremony was held at The Savoy in Covent Garden on November 23.
