Politicians in Wandsworth have condemned a Twitter account posing as a fake councillor after it published disturbing messages online.

The user, which goes by name Abu Abdul Wahid, claims they are a Labour councillor for Queenstown in Battersea and has posted content which has drawn anger.

Some tweets include, ‘White people are scum’, and ‘We need a final solution on the Tory question. God bless you’.

In another tweet to former professional footballers Gary Lineker and Stan Collymore, he said: “All world cup 2018 [sic] supporters are supporting Russia.

“So, be aware because you’ll be one of our targets.”

The borough’s Labour group has since strongly denied he is with them and confirmed that councillor Aydin Dikerdem is their only representative for the area.

Cllr Dikerdem said: “This is a fake account designed to fuel hatred and division. It is an Islamophobic parody that is misleading the public and Twitter should shut it down.

“I have already seen threats of violence directed at this fake account which, as the real Labour councillor for Queenstown, is disturbing.”

Although it has not posted since December 4, its tweets still remain online and it is currently unclear whether it will be removed or suspended.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “The material posted from this account is undeniably offensive, but we have reported it to Twitter to regulate.

"As a matter of course we leave it in their hands to investigate further unless they request our assistance.”
