Heavyweight boxer Joe Joyce will face Donnie Palmer this weekend at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Joyce, who lives in Putney, has had two fights after becoming professional late at the age of 32.

While an amateur, Joyce won a men’s super heavyweight silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Joyce, who attended the now-closed Elliot School in Putney, didn’t start his amateur boxing career till he was 22. Before starting boxing, he was a keen track and field athlete.

His opponent Palmer possesses the advantage of experience, having previously had 11 professional fights.

During his amateur career, American Palmer secured victories over Eric Molina and Charles Martin, who are former Anthony Joshua opponents.

Joyce is signed to David Haye’s Hayemaker promotions and is scheduled to fight on the undercard of the Tony Bellew vs David Haye rematch on Saturday, May 5.

However, his opponent for this fight is yet to be confirmed, despite rumours continuing to swirl that Derek Chisora will be Joyce’s opponent on Saturday, May 5.

The heavyweight bout between Joyce and Palmer will be shown live on Channel 5 on Saturday, March 17.
