Battersea Arts Centre will reopen its Grand Hall with a celebratory Phoenix season.

The centre, devastated by a fire in 2015, will reopen in September with a season to include new working spaces, cheap tickets and free events.

The Phoenix season will feature Gecko’s Missing which was cut short due to the fire in 2015. Other highlights include the National theatre of Scotland’s Adam, Lekan Lawal’s SUPERBLACKMAN and the UK’s Beatboxing Championships.

Across the season, two thousand tickets will be sold for £1 and will be distributed by local charities and voluntary organisations to people on low incomes through the centre’s Local Roots programme.

There will also be ten free events, designed to say thank you to those who have supported Battersea. The events will include a ceremonial photo in the Grand Hall, creative discussions, and the opening of the show Gecko.

A new Phoenix award, offering talented artists who work on a small scale the opportunity to present their work on a mid-scale, has also been created.

The award includes a £4,000 commission, residency time for their work at the centre, tickets to see all shows and the opportunity to present their work in the Grand Hall.

The programme is guaranteed to run for at least the next three years.

David Jubb, Artistic Director and CEO said:

“We are so grateful to everyone who has offered their time, advice and support over the last three years. Without it, we could not have kept going. It has been a privilege to work with so many inspiring people who have super-charged our mission to take creative risks to shape the future.

"In the midst of uncertain and often challenging times for many communities in London and beyond, we hope the Phoenix Season will be a reason for tens of thousands of people to come together, rise up and make a difference."

Another addition to the centre is the Scratch Hub, which will provide a home for creative and local start-ups.
