Local artists have been commissioned to decorate a Tooting estate with creative designs.

The artists will paint colourful murals and make a large upcycled mosaic on the Hazelhurst Estate, Tooting.

The brightly-coloured murals and mosaic will light up the walkway between Hayesend House Tower and the adjacent maisonette block.

The project is being commissioned by Work and Play Scrapstore, a re-use charity promoting the re use of donated waste materials.

Jayson Singh, an artist who specialises in large-scale sculptural arts for outdoor installation, will be decorating some of the pillars under Hayesend House Tower block.

Stevie King, an experienced community artist known as Weavie Stevie, will be choreographing an upcycled mosaic spelling out the word Hazelhurst.

Street artist Airborne Mark will be creating a mural of a 3D chameleon alongside the Hazelhurst mosaic. He creates it first as an origami piece then paints the origami directly on to the wall using spray paint.

The art work will be produced during the Hazelfest festival, on Sunday, May 20.

Jayson and Stevie will be encouraging members of the local community to participate during the second annual mini green festival held on the green in front of Hayesend House Tower.

During last year’s Hazelfest, there were more than 200 pieces of artwork made by the local community, using donated materials from Scrapstrore.
