There will be an increased police presence in Patmore Estate this weekend after police caught wind of an "unlicensed event" planned.

Latchmere Police took to Twitter to advise people that they would be stopping some people from even entering the area on Saturday and Sunday (May 19 and 20).

"Due to the nature of this event there will be an increased police presence in the area," the post read.

"This decision has been made in the best interests of residents and to ensure that minimal disruption is caused to the community."

They also said how, in an effort to support the plan, Wandsworth Police have authorised the power to stop and search people.

"It is a unique power intended to prevent serious violence of the commission of offences and enables officers to stop and search any person or vehicle in a specified area for weapons to prevent serious violence," the post read.

"This power will be in place from 2pm on Saturday, May 19 until 5am Sunday, May 20, within the following area.

"From midday Saturday the Patmore Estate will also be subject to a closure order for 48 hours."

Residents who live in Patmore Estate will still be allowed access to and from their homes, but police will have the power prohibit access to the estate by non-residents.

"This decision has been made in consultation with Wandsworth Council and the Patmore Co-operative and has the full support of both organisations."
