Student gardeners are to benefit from the launch of a shared garden nursery enterprise in Tooting.

Share Nurseries, set up by Share Community, is a gardening social enterprise to sell plants, produce and garden creations to the local residents.

The enterprise will sell plants, planted window boxes and hanging baskets, harvest vegetable boxes, compost, and garden creations such as floral decorations and Christmas wreaths.

As well as gardening skills, the enterprise gives Share students a pathway into work-related activities and teaches them employability skills, such as customer service and quality control.

The nursery is based in the Share Garden within the grounds of Springfield University Hospital in Tooting, Wandsworth.

Marsha de Cordova MP, the Shadow Minister for Disabled People, and Cllr Jane Cooper, Deputy Mayor of Wandsworth will attend the launch on , Saturday, June 2, at Share’s annual Plant Sale and Healthy Living Community Day.

Share is a charity that provides training and employment support for adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. Everything sold through Share Nurseries is grown or made by Share students studying horticulture.

Annie McDowall, Share’s CEO said “At Share, we’ve been passionate about gardening for over 20 years. We take enormous pride in growing beautiful, healthy plants to organic standards, and we think local people will welcome the opportunity to buy plants and produce from a sustainable social business. Our gardeners are all people who need a lot of support to learn and work.

"When you buy from us you’re investing in our students’ futures. Every happy customer means a team of student gardeners whose confidence just went up a notch. I’m hugely excited about launching Share Nurseries, so please come and join in the celebrations. I guarantee you’ll leave with a happy heart!”
