People in Wandsworth received a warm welcome to a Tooting church’s community open day.

More than 80 people dropped in to Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Road on Saturday, June 9, exploring its historic building and learning about the church’s work.

Throughout the day from 11am to 3pm, attendees took part in tours of the church and tower, getting the chance to try out the organ as well as learn about the church’s history and architecture.

Bedford Ward Cllr Clare Fraser said: "The visit to see the tower was great. Very interesting to learn the plans in the pipeline for it."

Children were able to enjoy craft activities offered by professional teacher Michelle King, a drama game led by the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy as well as getting to build a giant Jenga tower.

Displays about Holy Trinity’s faith and social projects were appreciated, while many guests took advantage of the homemade cakes and lunches.

Visitors were keen to find out how the church supports homeless people and those with mental health difficulties.

Residents of Western Lodge hostel for homeless men in Trinity Road provided information on the weekly drop in advice café for homeless people they run in partnership with Holy Trinity.

Volunteers and participants were also recruited for the monthly ‘Thursday Club’ which provides an evening of food and socialising for those with long term mental health conditions.

Nightingale Ward Cllr Richard Field gave an appreciative response to the short presentation by the vicar, Revd Andrew Davey, on Holy Trinity’s goals and plans to enhance community facilities as well as restore the 150 year old tower.

Cllr Sarah McDermott of Nightingale Ward said :"I’ve met so many interesting people and am really impressed with all the outreach Holy Trinity is doing – great community feeling!"
