Two men from Wandsworth who committed a robbery while riding a moped have been jailed.

The pair got a combined total of seven years jail time at Kingston Crown Court on Monday, June 18.

Recco Williams, 21, of Gatton Road, Wandsworth was sentenced to four years and 10 weeks in prison. This includes four years for robbery, three counts of fraud, and breach of a suspended sentence order.

Reuben Blakeway, 18, of Undine Street, Wandsworth was sentenced to two years, 11 months and one week. This includes two years for robbery as well as three counts of fraud, and breach of a suspended sentence order.

They had both pleaded guilty to fraud on Wednesday, June, 13 at the same court.

Williams and Blakeway committed the offences on Thursday, February 15.

At around 7:05pm, the pair, who were on a moped, snatched a 24- year- old woman handbag whilst she was walking home in Streatham.

The pillion passenger snatched her handbag, which included her iPhone and several credit cards, taking it off her shoulder and pulling her towards the ground. The riders then sped away.

A member of the public helped the victim, letting her call the police from his phone.

She managed to cancel two of her cards, however she received a notification from her bank that her card had been used three times in a supermarket and shop in Tooting after the robbery.

The victim was able to get a printout of the fraudulent transactions and passed the information to police.

Officers downloaded CCTV from the shops at the transaction times given by the bank, which identified Recco Williams and Reuben Blakeway.

A warrant for their arrest was issued and officers attended Williams’ home address on Friday, February 23 where he was detained and arrested for robbery, and fraud by false representation. He was later charged with both offences.

Blakeway handed himself in at a south London police station on Monday, March 5 and was questioned regarding the robbery and fraud and later charged with both offences.

Detective Constable Jack Kraushaar, Metropolitan Police Service said: “Police are working hard to keep the public safe and make the streets hostile territory for criminals who use scooters to snatch valuables from members of the public.

“This was a fantastic result, which has seen vicious scooter robbers receive lengthy prison time. These sentences send out a strong message that such incidents will be dealt with robustly by the Met and by the courts.”
