A resident has won an award for the development work he did in Tanzania.
Julian Page, 51, lives in Wandsworth and his family are from Twickenham. He came first place in the Social Impact category at the Westminster University Alumni Awards
The award recognises Julian's contribution to international development through the work of Livingstone Tanzania Trust (LTT).
LTT, whose UK office is on Lucien Road in Twickenham, operate in the Babati District of the Manyara Region in Tanzania. Their mission statement says they 'empower individuals to meet and exceed their basic need and improve their quality of life'.
Julian's award reflects the positive impact of LTT's work within communities in Northern Tanzania since 2008, which includes building or renovating over 40 classrooms and 60 toilets in eight schools. He also helped provide training and support to almost 300 farmers.
This was the first year of the awards, which celebrates the achievements of Westminster's alumnus. The university received over 200 nominees across five categories.
Julian said: “Without the kindness and support of so many people; our volunteers, donors and supporters, none of this could have been achieved. This really is an award for all of us!"
Julian is currently in Tanzania, overseeing progress on local projects. He commented: "As a small charity what we are doing here is developing a model that can be copied and adapted to meet the needs of other communities.”
