Following the news that Eddie Catz founder Darren Johnson spied on woman in the changing rooms of one of his kids centre, the company has assured people that it no longer associates itself with him.

On July 18, Johnson, of Manor Fields in Putney pleaded guilty to five counts of voyeurism over a period of 12 years, including counts against two 14-year-old girls.

The court heard that between January 1, 2005 and June 5, 2017, the 51-year-old watched and captured images of women in the Leisure Centre changing rooms and toilets in Putney and Earlsfield.

But a spokesman for Eddie Catz has now said that Johnson is no longer in the picture.

“Eddie Catz severed all ties with Darren Johnson more than one year ago," the spokesman said.

"Mr Johnson is no longer a shareholder or director of the firm. He has no association with business."

The first allegation of Johnson was reported by two 14-year-old girls on June 5 last year after they saw him attempting to take pictures of them on his mobile phone in the Putney centre's changing rooms.

As well as the centres in Putney and Earlsfield, Eddie Catz also operates in Colliers Wood.

"Since the allegations against Mr Johnson came to light in 2017, the management team has worked closely with the local council’s safeguarding team to ensure the protection of our employees and our customers is maintained," the spokesman added.

"This is our number one priority.

"The feedback we have received from the council has been very positive in this regard. Finally, Eddie Catz wants to thank all of its customers, a large number of whom have sent us messages of support at this time.”

Johnson will be sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday, August 28.

Detective Constable Nayeff Al-Wareeth, from the Met’s South West Command, said: "This conviction would not have been possible without the courage and bravery of the young girls who first came forward with the initial allegation.

"We will continue to work around the clock to ensure that criminals like Johnson are off our streets and behind bars."
