A suspected bomb threat outside HMP Wandsworth meant Heathfield Road was closed this morning.

The prison confirmed that the threat was outside the prison. The Met Police responded to a security alert at 8.45 am, on Tuesday, August 14.

Heathfield Road, which is outside the prison was closed while sniffer dogs and police attended the scene.

One resident said on Twitter: "Live opposite, told to stay indoors, looks like many of police responding initially re-tasked to #Westminister incident."

A solicitor, who had a legal visit to the prison booked, said: "Bomb threat in/near HMP Wandsworth, area is being evacuated - hopefully just a scare and apparently most people in the prison don't know about it, but looks like legal visits are off. Heathfield Road is closed."

The security alert has now been stood down.
