One of the largest and most successful korfball clubs in the UK are holding trials ahead of their new season.

Bec Korfball Club were founded in 1948. Since then, they have been promoting the sport in south London, around Tooting, Brixton and Clapham. They have five senior teams and two junior teams, that play at a variety of levels ranging from the very top league to social London leagues.

Ahead of the new season in September, the club is looking to continue to spread the word about korfball and increase participation. They will be holding trials in the coming weeks, which are open to anyone.

The club currently has over 50 active members on its books who love the competition, camaraderie and enjoyment that the club brings to their lives.

They cater to players of all abilities from seasoned internationals to complete beginners. Lisa Swain, who is part of the development and recruitment team said: “We pride ourselves on always welcoming new members and strive to provide the perfect environment in which to enjoy this unique sport.

“Korfball is a fun and exciting sport that anyone can play. It bears similarities to netball and basketball in that the aim is to throw a ball into a basket but there are several rules that mean it is quite different to both.”

Korfball is the only exclusively mixed-sex sport. Teams must always have four male and four female players on court.

Each player is in a ‘duel’ with an opponent of the same sex and must use their speed, agility and skill to break free and try score. Korfball is fast and dynamic, requiring teamwork and cooperation.
