Staff at St George’s Hospital in Tooting are hoping to smash their previous best and raise over £2,400, when they host a ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ for Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday, September 28.

From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, patients and staff, visitors and the public are invited to come along and take part in the famous fundraiser by indulging in a cuppa or slice of cake – all in support of people living with cancer.

Macmillan Cancer Support has invested over £1.7million into a 3-year programme to improve the cancer patient experience at St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Macmillan Partnership Manager for South West London, Victoria Heald, urged people to raise a coffee mug for the cancer charity: “Every day, over 90 people in London hear the devastating news that they have cancer. With this number set to nearly double by 2030, Macmillan’s support and services will be in more demand than ever.

“Coffee Mornings such as the one being held at St George’s means that Macmillan can be there for even more Londoners living with cancer – coffee and cake really do change lives!”

Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raised £2.1million in London last year. Approximately every £1,000 raised by a Coffee Morning could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week - helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

The fundraising will be taking place at two locations at the Trust – the hospital’s main entrance (Grosvenor Wing) and at the Macmillan Information and Support Centre, based on the ground floor near the hospital’s main entrance. There will also be a raffle with various prizes including; a Waitrose voucher, a bottle of bubbly and a festive hamper.
