Putney pensioner hits the bingo jackpot

A 79-year-old Putney pensioner struck the jackpot last Sunday when she won £100,000 playing bingo.

The widow, who does not want to be named, has been playing bingo for many years but was still shocked by her big win at Wandsworth's Mecca Club in Garratt Lane.

As well as winning the chain's national bingo game prize of £100,000 she also scooped the house prize of £315 after she completed a full house in 41 numbers - the lowest call of any of the 500 clubs playing.

Six months ago she won £1,000 at the same club and £3,000 two years before.

"It took until the next day for me to realise how much I'd won," she said, "Everybody in the club was jumping up and down when my win was announced, but I just sat there in surprise."

She added that she'll be using the cash to splash out on her family of four children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

"I usually play bingo five times a week, but now I've won I'm going to start playing every day."
