A man is hoping to make a new world record – of paddle boarding the entire length of the River Thames.

David Haze, from Bournemouth, is taking on the 208km challenge on his Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP), to raise money for criminal reform.

The 36-year-old plans to journey the non-tidal stretch of the River Thames, from Lechlade to Teddington Lock, on September 21.

With a target of 36 hours, he hopes to beat the current world record of 2 days, 14 hours and 8 minutes without sleeping.

The challenge comes just after Mr Haze successfully completed four of the UK’s longest lakes in four days, achieving four world records.

However, he said it isn't all about wins, but also a cause close to the criminal reform consultant’s heart.

Mr Haze said: “The power of adventure and sport has truly transformed my life for the better, giving me purpose, drive and an opportunity to understand myself once again to live a fuller life.

“Prison reform and rehabilitation is something I am very passionate about, it seems to be a lost cause in this country but it is very much something that needs our attention if we want to change lives for the better.

“We all need to come together to make a difference, bringing down the reoffending rate in this Country, creating safer communities and harmonious environments for all of us to live in.

He is raising money for the ‘Alliance of Sport’ a charity with a mission to build a better and safer society through the use of sport in the Criminal Justice System and by actively helping their network in their efforts to reduce violence, crime and reoffending.

Mr Haze has already raised £2,232, you can help his cause here, or follow his journey on social media.
