A primary school in south London has been recognised by the Department for Education for their "outstanding" phonics results.
Sheringdale Primary School, in Wandsworth, received results which place them among the top 3 per cent in the country.
The recognition comes after the school's exceptional performance in the Phonics Check, a national assessment for primary school students in England.
The check evaluates a child's ability to decode and read words using phonics, a critical milestone in their educational journey.
Sheringdale's pupils, now in Year 2, showcased a high standard of phonics skills which forms the basis for proficient reading and comprehension.
A letter from Damien Hinds, the Minister for Schools at the Department for Education, congratulated the primary school on their "outstanding achievement".
He wrote: "I was delighted to see your results.
"With 97 per cent of pupils in Year 1 at Sheringdale Primary School meeting the expected standard in the check, your school is in the top 3 per cent of all primary schools in the country.
"The latest figures show that 83 per cent of pupils who met the expected standard in the check went on to achieve at least the expected standard in reading at key stage 2 in 2023, which underlines the importance of developing the ability to decode words effectively at an early age."
He added: "I would like to thank you for your commitment and success in this vital area of a child's early education and congratulate you, your staff and pupils again on all you have achieved."
The school uses Jolly Phonics to teach early reading, a method embraced by the students both in school and when learning at home.
A spokesperson for the school said that this achievement was down to the "excellent work" of class teachers Ellen Gibson (AHT) and Emma Souter, as well as the families helping at home.
They added: "The children and staff worked really hard to achieve this very high standard and are very proud of their success.
"Thanks to everyone who supported the children to achieve these brilliant results.
"Very well done!"
