A Scottish dog lover has left a portion of her £7m fortune to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
Grace Smith, who died in January aged 85, divided her estate among several animal charities, and is said to have left tens of thousands of pounds for the care of her own beloved dogs.
The kind widow, from the village of Alves in Moray, Scotland, also left money to the Dogs Trust, the PDSA, the Scottish SPCA and the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare.
A spokeswoman for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home said: “We rely heavily on public donations and as the credit crunch continues to bite, people have less disposable income, so we were delighted to receive this donation.
“The money will go towards finding homes for some of the many cats and dogs in our care.”
