A cyclist was stabbed in the arm during a suspected road rage incident in Tooting, police have revealed.

The victim was on his bike at the junction of Bickersteth Road and Renmuir Street when he was attacked by a youth who was a passenger in a dark-coloured hatchback-style car.

The incident happened at about 7.50pm last Tuesday, January 6.

According to police the vehicle had been trying to overtake the cyclist and, despite there being enough room, the driver sounded his horn.

The car then pulled over and a youth got out, stabbed the cyclist in the arm and calmly got back in before the vehicle drove off into Trevelyan Road.

A police spokesman said: "The guy was riding his bike and car behind him started beeping.

"There was enough space for the car to overtake but he didn’t and then someone got out of the car and stabbed in the arm without warning."

The victim sustained an injury to the inside of his right arm but it is not thought to be serious.

Police have described the attacker as a young black man, between the age of 17 and 18, who was wearing a blue hooded zip-up top with a pocket on the breast which had a Nike ‘tick’ logo on it.

The car also contained three other young men, all between the age of 17 and 18.

Officers want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who saw anything suspicious.
