Battersea pupils explore sari history

Battersea schoolchildren donned colourful saris at York Gardens Library last week for an Asian cultural day.

Librarian Therese Rajadurai led the jamboree, wrapping lucky schoolboy Joe English-Konu in pretty fabric in front of his classmates at Thames Christian College.

The library in Lavender Road is currently showing the British Sari Story, an exhibition of sparkling saris from traditional and modern times.

Meryl Jones, head of library and heritage services, said: “We’re delighted to be able to display such an exciting show that reflects the experience of so many British Asian communities in the borough who are keen library users.”

Admission is free. For more information call 020 8871 7471.
