Tooting breast grabber pleads guilty to sexual assault

A 20-year-old man who grabbed women’s breasts in the street near Tooting Bec tube station has pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Kingston Crown Court.

Wajahat Zubair, from Walworth, attacked four women last year - including an Australian woman whom he targeted five times.

The woman, who cannot be named, has now moved out of the area and claims she is on the verge of moving back home because of her ordeal.

Crown prosecutor Jane Carpenter said: “She was extremely shocked and upset about what happened.”

Zubair targeted victims walking to and from Tooting Bec tube station between March and May last year.

As he continued his attacks, he got more confident and even pounced on a woman during rush hour on a busy street.

Ms Carpenter said of that attack: “She described the defendant as caressing her left breast.

“She felt he’d done it before.”

He was finally arrested on June 19, and although two victims later picked him out in an identity parade he denied any involvement.

On May 11 this year, facing a lengthy trial, he eventually pleaded guilty to eight sexual assaults at the last minute.

Zubair came to the country in November 2007 to be with his mother, who has a study visa.

The Wandsworth Guardian was prevented from reporting the case until now because of a gagging order made by the courts.

Our reporter succeeded in overturning the order, as the judge agreed it had been imposed incorrectly.

Zubair will be sentenced by Judge Matthews on Monday, August 10 at the same court.

And I will say what many people will be thinking, but worried about voicing incase of persecution!
Dont "sentence" him to anything.....Deport him! We dont want behaviour like this here. We wont tolerate it!
I dont want my hard earned tax paying for him to be "rehabilitated"...Se
nd the problem back to its origins, which I can only assume from his blatant disregard for the women he assaulted, is a country where women are still regarded as second class!
Come on UK - Grow a backbone!

Absolutely disgusting. I'm with the poster above - deport him immediately.
What's even more disgusting is that the court tried to protect this man and give him anonymity. Congratulations to the reporter for getting the decision overturned so we can all see what this pervert has done.

Since I am now an elderly women I am no longer bothered by young men of this type. However, 30 years ago, when I worked in London, groping in the underground was not unusual, nor was the answering clout across the jaw with a well loaded handbag.
Ladies, if you will not keep up the tradition of protecting yourselves from such people, then you are silently proving that you need "protection". Next thing you will be wearing portable tents.
Nothing against throwing him out of the country, preferably via the cliffs of Dover (can he swim?). However, do not throw away what we fought for. Independence and the right to retaliate! Or has the PC-Left already rescinded that too?

Lady from Kingston, you have a valid point- but who's to say you wouldn't get prosecuted for assault if you did that? Also, who's to say the attacker wouldn't turn violent on you if you were to confront him? I know these incidents may seem trivial to some, but it's happened to me on several occasions and it's very intimidating and frightening. Your first thought is just to get away from that person- not administer a jolly slap on the wrists as if they're nothing more than a naughty child. The only way to deter these people is through the courts and I'm glad this man has been caught.

@Jenny1
True, 30 years ago one was more likely to be congratulated for retaliating, whereas now victims are being increasingly punished by the police.
On the other hand, 30 years ago, we had Margaret Thatcher, whereas the young women of today have political correctness. Maybe more young women should get together and change the political climate again? We worked hard for our rights; it hurts to see them trickling away again.
Oh and NOT a slap on the wrist - the phrase was: "clout across the jaw with a well loaded handbag", and if I failed to mention the follow up Knee in Sensitive Parts, this was out of consideration for any male readers. In the past, I too have been in this situation, more than once, in a number of countries, prospective rapists need to be discouraged.
