London Mayor Boris Johnson has ruled out creating a new bus route from Balham to Clapham Junction.
In a letter to Battersea Martin Linton, who proposed the idea, the Mayor said it was not needed as commuters could take a 155 or 249 to Clapham Common and then a 35 or 37 to Clapham Junction.
Mr Linton said: “According to Transport for London’s (TfL) journey planner this route takes you 44 minutes to travel just one and a half miles.
“TfL’s website in fact advises another route - either walk or bus to Clapham South and a G1 (37 minutes), or walk to Wandsworth Common and a 319 (36 minutes).
“Either way it takes far too long for people in Balham to travel just one and a half miles.
“He [the Mayor] should admit Balham is very poorly served for buses."
