Young Muslims from Southfields celebrated 25 years of charity with a sponsored run on Sunday.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, based at the London Mosque in Gressenhall Road, went to Windsor for the 10km challenge.

The event marks the silver jubilee of the group's Charity Challenge project, which began in 1985.

Since then, they have raised £1 million for charity, with £112,800 collected last year alone.

This year, money will go towards 10 charities including Great Ormond Street Hospital, Macmillan Cancer Support, Save the Children, Humanity First and Barnardo's.

They will also be supporting The Royal British Legion and the Royal National Institute of Blind People for the first time.

Youth leader Rana Usman said: “For Muslims, service to humanity is a religious duty.

"Islam requires its followers to help the needy and to alleviate the suffering of people, regardless of age, gender, race and religion.

"The London Mosque in Southfields has been at the heart of serving the British Community since 1924."
