A seriously ill Wimbledon boy was granted his biggest wish on Saturday by becoming a real life Fireman Sam for the day.

Three-year-old Michael Hoskins is living with brain tumours which were diagnosed in November 2006 when he was just six months old.

Michael's favourite TV show is Fireman Sam and he even tries to re-enact episodes using other members of his family.

Peter Hoskins, Michael's dad, said: “This really will be huge boost for Michael after his recent treatment, and it is literally like a ray of sunshine.”

Michael has just completed his second round of chemotherapy.

As well as riding in the fire engine for the day, Michael was also given his own fireman's uniform courtesy of the charity.

The details of the day were kept secret from Michael so that he could enjoy the surprise even more.

The Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity, which organised the event, grants wishes for children with life-limiting illnesses between the ages of three and 18, across the UK.

The charity was set up in 2004, and also helps hospitals, hospices and specialist schools improve their facilities.

Other wishes granted recently by the charity include arranging for a young boy to go for drive in a tank and for a young girl to go to the X Factor live tour, meeting the stars of the show afterwards.
