Two men have been sentenced to 14 years each in prison for their part in a serious assault in Battersea.

Lian Dusauzay, 20, of Reform Street, Battersea, and Jermaine Deriggs, 28, of Armoury Way, Wandsworth, knocked on their victim’s door in Pennethorne House, Battersea, with a sawn off shotgun, with intention of robbing the occupant.

The 36-year-old man had met Deriggs before and had no reason to be suspicious of the men. However, once in the living room, Dusauzay produced the sawn-off shotgun.

Deriggs then picked up a kitchen knife and threatened the victim. However the victim refused to cooperate and confronted the suspects, attempting to disarm them.

A struggle then ensued where the shotgun was fired into the ceiling of the living room. Derriggs then stabbed the victim before both suspects fled the scene.

The man suffered a fractured right arm and two stab wounds to the chest resulting in a collapsed lung. He might never have full use his right arm again.

Detective Constable Andy Snazell, from Trident, said: “This is a violent attack on an innocent man who had no reason to suspect that these men were intending to rob him or attack him in such a violent manner. His actions were extremely brave and he is lucky to have survived this terrible ordeal.”

Both suspects were identified as a result of CCTV cameras installed at Pennethorne House.

DC Snazell added: “The CCTV was a vital tool that established, without doubt, that these men had carried out the attack.”

CPS London Lawyer Tarryn McCaffrey said: “This sentence is a good result for the local community and for the victim of this violent attack. Both men tried to claim in court that they acted in self defence by accusing the victim of attacking them whilst they were inside his home. The evidence shown to the Crown Prosecution Service put before the court was able to show this was not the case. Amongst the items the jury were shown was CCTV footage showing the defendants arriving and exiting the apartment where they were seen to be in good spirits.”

Both Dusauzay and Deriggs have been sentenced to 11 years for GBH and a further three years for possession of the firearm to be served consecutively.
