It was the end of an era for Fiona Rennie, who retired this week from Sir James Barrie Primary School in Battersea.
Miss Rennie, who has taught at the school for 39 years, bid a fond farewell to her pupils in a special assembly on Wednesday.
The science enthusiast, who was famous for introducing children to nature in the borough’s parks, was made deputy head-teacher a year ago.
She now plans to buy a dog to accompany her on long walks in her retirement.
Alison Effah-Mensah, from the school office, said: “We’ll really miss her. We can’t believe she wont be there next term because she’s so supportive. Everyone knows Miss Rennie. She taught some of our staff and parents as well.”
