Human rights protesters gatecrashed a residents' meeting about the Nine Elms development last Tuesday.

Two people arrived bearing a banner reading “Save Shaker Aamer Campaign; Last Londoner in Guantanamo” - along with an orange boiler suit.

Many residents have remarked on the irony of plans to create a US Embassy near the home of Battersea resident Mr Aamer, who has been detained by the Americans for eight years.

Councillors met with residents over two days to discuss the future of the area, which, along with the US Embassy, would also play host to new homes.
