A Wandsworth girl is dancing on air after making it through the final of a Channel Five talent show programme.

Katie Charman, 17, of Heathfield Road, has been performing on the hit show Don’t Stop Believing with her song and dance troop, The Songtimers.

The group of 20, who are aged 15 to 21, are a glee club based in Wimbledon and have had to juggle practise with school exams and part-time jobs.

Under the direction of Ryan Mac Caulay and Matthew Chandler, they are now down to the last six groups after originally battling against 3,000 from across the country.

Miss Charman has been performing since the age of eight and dreams of one day making it onto a West End stage.

She has already taken part in local performances of Billy Elliot and High School Musical after joining Songtime Theatre Arts group.

Proud mum Christine, 50, said: “They have all been so nervous, but they’ve been training and working hard. They need all the votes they can get to win the final.”

The show’s final will be aired at 5.45pm on August, Sunday 22 on Channel Five.
