Tears of joy and sadness have been shed this morning as A-level students across the borough discovered their exam results.

Although results are still coming, early indications suggest Wandsworth has recorded another successful year.

Nearly 80 per cent of the grades recorded at Graveney School, in Tooting, were A* to C, with almost 10 per cent being A*. A further 22 per cent of results were A grades and 27 per cent were grade B.

Head of sixth form Tamzin Cronin said: “The school is delighted with these results, which are a wonderful achievement by our students. They reflect the commitment and hard work of our students, their teachers’ dedication and the support of their parents. Congratulations and well done to all concerned.”

In Southfields, students at St Cecilia’s, Wandsworth Church of England School, were celebrating the school’s first set of A-level results.

An impressive 96 per cent of students achieved three A-levels, with 100 per cent obtaining at least two. Ninety eighty per cent of all entries were graded at A* to E and 23 per cent of all grades achieved were A* or A grades.

Star pupil Leo Evans achieved three A* grades, and has obtained a place at Bath University to read mechanical engineering while Hugh Wyld bagged two A* grades and one A grade, securing him a place at Cambridge to study drama.

Headteacher Niall Gallagher said: “We are thrilled with our first ever set of A-level results, which rival those of some of the best local independent as well as state schools.”

Executive headteacher Jeffrey Risbridger added: “The young people worked very hard and have achieved excellent results which enable them to move forward on their chosen career paths.”

Staff at Southfields Community College were equally pleased with their students after recording better results than ever before.

The school achieved a 100 per cent A to E pass rate, with 74 per cent A to C grades.

Thirty four per cent scored either A or A* grades.

Headteacher Jacqueline Valin said: “Many of our students come from backgrounds where they will be the first generation to go to university and so far 81 students have had their places confirmed.

“The best successes are those students who joined us from abroad in year 11. Many rejected by other secondaries are now on their journey to higher education and we are as proud of them as we are of all those who have had access to the full Southfields experience.”
