Wanted posters issuing a Fatwa against Home Secretary Theresa May have appeared in Tooting town centre overnight.
The Western-style, professionally-printed posters have been plastered on phone boxes, bus shelters and even the town’s message board close to Tooting Broadway Tube station.
They claim the Fatwa - a term sometimes used to mean an Islamic death sentence imposed upon a person - is “for the abduction, kidnapping and false imprisonment” of various radical clerics.
One resident, who did not want to be named, admitted he was not Mrs May’s biggest fan but felt compelled to report the posters to Wandsworth Council as taxpayers’ would have to foot the removal bill.
He said: “I think it’s pretty ridiculous they are putting this kind of thing up.
“I could not believe it when I first saw it. I thought maybe it was a joke but by the looks of it someone’s decided they’ve had enough.”
The posters ask readers to visit theresamayfatwa.com.
Wandsworth Council is currently looking into the matter.
Wandsworth police have so far been unavailable for comment.
