A 17-year-old Clapham college pupil landed one of 26 coveted places at specialist school for young journalists.
Ramon Agu-Bello, a student at St Francis Xavier College, fought off fierce competition from more than 200 applicants to enrole in the Young Journalists’ Academy (YJA) Summer School, in Canary Wharf.
The teenager spent last week taking part in workshops and going on tours of newsrooms at The Times, the BBC and Reuters.
The course was run by 20 accomplished journalists, editors and front-line reporters.
YJA coordinator, Nathalie Rothschild, said: "At a time when the future of newspapers has been called into question and even journalists are reluctant to make a principled defence for press freedom, the Young Journalists’ Academy hopes to inspire a new generation of reporters to learn the value of freedom of expression, truth-seeking and good grammar.
