More than £400 was raised when animal lovers - and their dogs - gathered for a teddy bears picnic.

The event in Battersea Park, on Sunday, raised £429.50 for Animals Asia Foundation, which rescues distressed bears in China and Vietnam.

The fundraiser featured a teddy bear treasure hunt, a prize for the scruffiest dog, as well as animal origami and painting salt-dough bear cookies.

Organiser and Wimbledon resident Maren Dallmann formed a support group to the charity with 30 other Londoners after learning that Moon bears were being farmed for their bile.

She said: "The idea came about because we all love our teddy bears, yet real life bears are suffering every day in China and Vietnam."
