Boris Johnson launches no-idling campaign in bid for cleaner air for Olympics Boris Johnson launches no-idling campaign in bid for cleaner air for Olympics

BORIS Johnson wants drivers to do their bit before the Olympics and switch off their engines when parked, loading or waiting at the roadside.

The no-idling campaign is part of a Transport for London drive to improve air quality, cut pollution and clean up the city ahead of the games.

It comes after research commissioned by the London mayor’s office suggests poor air quality plays a part in 4,300 premature deaths in the capital each year.

Mayor Johnson said: “I am committed to improving Londoners' quality of life by bringing the best of village living into the city.

“This includes delivering cleaner, healthier air.

“Turning off engines when stationary for more than a minute creates a host of positive benefits by reducing pollution and using less petrol to save people money.

“This small individual step can collectively make a massive difference and help improve our great city.”

There's going to be a lot of stationary traffic next summer - all trying to get to work during the Olympic Games.

I wonder how much pollution was dumped into London's air from the New Year firework display? Then when we have the London Air Race, there's even more, but nothing is said about that!

I wonder what effect all the hot air that seems to come out of the mayor's office has on the environment as well.

Boris – how much pollution is caused by traffic sitting gridlocked in the new traffic-hostile Orpington High Street?

Who wasted £2m on it and thought it was a great idea? You did !

People are beginning to see through your “likeable idiot” act and realise you only do sound bites and have no joined up policies.
