A man appeared in court yesterday accused of murdering Anthony Thompson in Tooting on Sunday (February 5).

Thomas Evans, of Bordesley Road, Morden, did not enter a plea during his brief appearance at Camberwell Magistrates' Court.

Mr Thompson, 26, of Derinton Road, Tooting, died in hospital two days after being found in the street in nearby Holmbury Court suffering head injuries.

A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder inquiry on the same day, and another 33-year-old man was arrested the following day.

Both were later bailed to return on February 21 pending further inquiries.

Thirty-one-year-old Mr Evans, who was arrested on Tuesday and is being held in custody, will appear again at the Camberwell court on Monday.
