MP Justine Greening will be meeting with pedestrian charity Living Streets tomorrow to discuss how to improve the area around Putney train station.
On Friday, the Secretary of State for Transport will join Living Streets on a "taster audit" taking in the area around Putney Train station assessing how the area could be improved to increase local walking, encourage visits to local retailers and to make the open space more accessible to people on foot.
The charity's audits involve working with groups of stakeholders, including local residents and businesses, to identify improvements which will create a safe, attractive and enjoyable environment for all users.
Living Streets has audited walking routes in major cities, busy town centres and residential areas.
Their work in Covent Garden saw big changes to the walking environment, with wider pavements installed, improved crossing points and more open space for people to use and enjoy in the area. By using the expertise of the local community, changes that are made are in direct response to local demand.
Tony Armstrong, chief executive of Living Streets, said: "We are thrilled that the Secretary of State is joining us in her own constituency for an audit in Putney.
"It’s an excellent opportunity for us to share with her the difficulties that pedestrians face on a day to day basis.
"Our Community Street Audits are a brilliant way of making real, lasting changes to local streets.
"We believe that our streets should be accessible to all of us, without the threat of uneven pavements and excess clutter, and by making changes; we believe we can encourage more people to walk regularly, reducing congestion and creating a stronger sense of community."
