The official route of the Olympic torch relay and its torchbearers was announced this morning including three people from our area.

Tim Lawler, 44, from Tadworth, will be carrying the flame through Dorking and Kelvin Freeman, 45, from Banstead, through Reigate on July 20, while Malcolm McFarlane, 42, from Leatherhead, will be carrying the flame through Sutton on July 23.

The Olympic Flame will arrive in Mole Valley on Friday, July 20 with a detailed map released this morning of the streets it will pass through.

Starting at about 4.10pm, the flame will be carried from Pixham Lane towards the cockerel roundabout, past Dorking Halls and down Dorking High Street.

It will continue along South Street and on to Vincent Lane and Milton Court Lane where it will be transferred to its special vehicle for transportation to Westcott.

It will arrive in Westcott at about 4.38pm and be carried again by torchbearers along the A25 Guildford Road.

Once at Sandrock Road the flame will transfer back to its vehicle to be driven towards Shere.

James Friend, leader of Mole Valley District Council, said: "The attention that will come with the Torch Relay gives our local residents, communities and businesses the chance to show Mole Valley at its very best to the rest of the country and to the world.

"As July 20 happens to be the last day of term for many of our schools, I am really looking forward to seeing as many children as possible taking the opportunity to share in the celebration and excitement together as we count down to the start of the London 2012 Games."

Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG, added: "The Flame symbolises the Olympic spirit and its journey around the UK will bring the excitement of the Games to our streets.

"Now the people know the route the Olympic Flame will be carried along and the Torchbearers for their community, they can start planning how they might celebrate and make it Mole Valley’s moment to shine."
