Seven Wandsworth schools are competing to win a slot to dance at London's Southbank Centre.

Youngsters will be strutting their stuff in a dance extravaganza at Ashcroft Technology Academy, in West Hill, Wandsworth, on April 20.

The event is organised by Step into Dance, a youth programme which aims to encourage greater participation in all forms of dance which runs in partnership with the Royal Academy of Dance.

Students aged 11 to 16 will take part to show off their talents alongside special guest Kirsty Swain, finalist on So You Think You Can Dance, who will be making an appearance during the show.

There will be pupils from Burntwood School, Ricards Lodge High School, St Cecilia's School and Garrat Park participating.

Students at Dunraven, Ashcroft Technology Academy and Ernest Bevin College will also be showing off their dancing skills.

The group to show the most dedication and commitment will be invited to represent Wandsworth in the Step LIVE! 2012 show on July 7.

There will be 32 schools from London boroughs and Essex taking part.

Sue Goodman, artistic director, said: "For many of our dancers, this will be the first time they have performed in public, so understandably they are excited about showcasing their skills to an audience here in Wandsworth as well as the chance to take their performance to Southbank Centre in July".
