A football club has welcomed eight egg-citing new additions to their team in a bid to cut costs.

Fulham Football Club, whose training ground is in Motspur Park, have bought a brood of hens to enhance the club's "ecologically-friendly environment".

It is hoped the free-range birds will produce about 2,400 eggs per year cutting the cost of the team’s weekly food bill.

The club said their players get through about 90 eggs every week - just under 5,000 eggs each year. Staff have already planted fruit trees and an organic vegetable plot within their training ground in an effort to be more eco-friendly.

You can help name the hens via the club's Twitter page @FulhamFC by tweeting #fulhamchickens.

The eight best names will be published in the match day programme for the team’s game at home to Wigan Athletic, at Craven Cottage, on Saturday, April 21.
