A man is thought to have drowned in the Thames last night after falling from Battersea Bridge.

Police were called at the bridge at 6.45pm on Thursday, May 3, after receiving reports of the incident. The man was spotted in the water before sight of him was lost. The tide is understood to have taken him towards Albert Bridge.

Extensive searches were carried out by the Marine Policing Unit, the coastguard and officers on both banks of the river banks but they failed to find him.

The man was white, with dark hair, aged between 35 and 45 years-old and possibly wearing a grey hooded top.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time them man fell from the bridge or anyone who may have seen his movements or behaviour beforehand.

At this early stage the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
