Event planned to help unemployment in Tooting

An event is taking place this month to try and help people find employment.

Tooting Works, hosted by MP Sadiq Khan, is taking place in South Thames College, in Tooting High Street on August 31.

The free event is bringing together employment experts to help job seekers improve their CVs and job applications.

There will also be trainers on hand to help with job interviews, apprenticeships and support on setting up a business.

The Prince's Trust, Sainsbury's, Starbucks and Job Centre Plus will all be in attendance, as well as volunteer recruitment experts.

Shadow Business Secretary MP Chuka Umunna will also be speaking to attendees.

Mr Khan said he organised the event to try and tackle long-term youth unemployment, with more than 2,200 unemployed people in Tooting.

He said: "We’ve got lots of talented people in Tooting, many of whom are struggling to find a job at the moment - they’ve got the skills to do the work, they just need a helping hand finding the right jobs or presenting themselves well in their CVs or at job interviews..

"This event will be a great chance for people to get a leg up, so if you’re looking for work, want to move jobs or know someone else that does, please come along."

Tooting Works is on from 10am-4pm on August 31 and is free to attend.
