A former clinical psychologist who turned her hand to baking has won an accolade for her cakes.

Canellabakes, set up by Claudia Camhi, of Wandsworth, was given two stars at the 2012 Great Taste Awards by the Guild of Fine Food this month.

The gold stars give recognition to top quality artisan food producers, with entries judged by Masterchef judge Charles Campion.

Mrs Camhi runs the baking business from her own home and sells her cakes to businesses in Wandsworth.

The mum-of -two trained as a psychologist in the UK and Chile, but decided to make a career out of her passion of baking.

She bakes using only almond flour rather than wheat, and makes cakes such as almond espresso, almond dark chocolate and almond orange and cointreau.

Her cakes can be snapped up in Putney: Neuhaus, Valentina Fine Foods and Matteo's of Putney.

Mrs Camhi beat off competition from about 9,000 other businesses for the award, with only 600 business gaining the achievement.

She said: "Cooking has been my other passion since I can remember. It is part of my family tradition to gather people around the table.

"I made up a few recipes only using almond flour, and then I journeyed in culinary terms through other parts of the world."
