Park fire sparks campaign for closed gates in the evenings Park fire sparks campaign for closed gates in the evenings

A fire in a park has sparked a campaign to get it closed in the evenings.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Coronation Gardens, Pirbright Road, Southfields, at 10pm on August 22.

It was caused after a plastic bag filled with magazines caught alight, which is thought to have been deliberate.

Firecrews put it out within minutes, with the fire being located within a pavilion area of the park.

A firefighter said people at the scene were calling for the park to be closed in the evenings and increase security.
